Words in Vain

Filling the silences

With immaterial chatter

Sparkling, flitting around

Frittering away the moment

When solace

Could be found

In the simple smile

The twinkling of the eye

The sharing of the sigh.

Unsaid it lapses

Cold, unheard.

But then did we not always say

That words were vain

That when we run out

We’d still be the same
