Why do I reach out to you
As if there is anything you can do
And then that little smile
Bridges the unseen mile
And the world rights itself again

I reach out for your hand blindly
Scrabbling through chaos for something kindly
A steady half caring clutch
Tells me, it doesn’t matter too much
And the dust settles down to its grain

My mind races towards that hug
Warm and calm with a trace of a tug
One that demands as little as it gives
Knowing our troubles this outlives
Everything that is ours shall remain

I don’t need much from you
But I need to know you are true
To the vows we never needed to take
Because there was nothing to forsake
And it shall always be in that vein
